As with any celebration, safety precautions must be taken in order to keep the festivities lively, so we compiled a short list of New Year's safety tips to ensure everyone is happy and healthy come January 1st.
- Designate a Driver: You have heard it before, and you will hear it again; If you plan on drinking away from home on New Year's Eve, please designate a driver. Planning ahead is critical, so make sure you have a friend, family member, or taxi ready to pick you up and bring you home safely. If you want to ensure you have a way home on New Year's Eve, download NHTSA's SaferRide app.
- Don't Text and Drive: New Year's Eve is usually a very hectic night on our roadways, so it is imperative you drive with 100% focus on the road ahead. Text your friends prior to getting in your vehicle and let them know you won't be able to contact them until you arrive at your destination.
- Use Caution With Fireworks: If you plan on bringing in the New Year with fireworks, please do so responsibly. Make sure there is adult supervision, never point a firework at someone else, keep a bucket of water or fire hydrant handy, and never attempt to re-light a firework that is a 'dud' or did not ignite initially.
