Labor Day (September 7) is the final and perhaps most important day of this eye-opening campaign. The NHTSA reported on Labor Day 2013, that more than half of the auto-related fatalities between the peak hours of 6pm and 6am were due to drunk driving.
In 2013, a person was killed in a drunk-driving incident every 52 minutes, accounting for 31% of motor-vehicle fatalities in the US. A total of 68% of the 10,076 people who died in drunk driving crashes that year involved at least one driver with a BAC of .15 or higher, nearly twice the legal limit!
While thankfully the statistics have gone down since 2013, drunk driving is still a deadly reality, one which poses a risk to all drivers and pedestrians.
Remember, law enforcement will see you before you see them, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." Download the NHTSA's SaferRide app, which assists drunk drivers by identifying their location, and notifying either a friend or taxi service to pick them up.
